Just
after the second world war Çukurova, following the developments
in Turkey, imported farming and construction equipment. This way
the Group played a great role completing infrastructure projects,
such as roads, dams, and power plants, and it took part in the
modernization and mechanization of the agriculture. The Çukurova
Group takes pride in its contribution to the development of the
Young Turkish Republic in these years.
The core business areas of the Çukurova Group are industry, construction, communication & information technology, media, transportation & services, trade, financial services and energy. Çukurova Group currently has 141 companies. Of these, 19 are foreign investments and 15 are joint ventures based in Turkey. A total number of 32.700 people are employed in Çukurova companies in Turkey and abroad. With regard to their management and strategic goals, Çukurova Group companies enjoy a great deal of autonomy - a unique element that associates them with the philosophy and ideals of the Group. Unlike other business groups around the globe, the foundations of the Çukurova Group rest on its autonomous character - greatly contributing to the success of the Group as a whole.
The
Çukurova Group has established joint venture companies
with international companies that possess technical know-how and
expertise in order to transfer technology to Turkey and manufacture
goods at the highest quality standards. All industrial companies
within the Çukurova Group adhere to strict quality control
procedures; many companies have received official certification
by international accrediting institutions.
The Group also has a strong presence in some of its core business
lines beyond the borders of its home country and has established
efficient marketing channels, enabling distribution of its goods
worldwide. Subsidiary companies have been established as well
as representative offices in a number of overseas countries. The
Group has a very strong marketing network in Central Asian countries
- extending all the way to China and the Asia-Pacific basin.
Since the early days of its existence, the Çukurova Group
started manufacturing loaders, excavators, forklift trucks in
addition to heavy duty and light commercial vehicles, and busses
under the BMC brand name at its plants. The Group has now become
an exporter for these vehicles and machinery as far away as Spain
and the UK. Over the years, the Çukurova Group expanded
into other areas and now produces pipes, chemicals and paper and
engages in construction contracting - domestically and internationally.
Turkcell,
representing the Group’s presence in the telecommunications
sector, has established joint venture companies with national
telephone operators in Kazakhstan, Moldova and Azerbaijan and
other partners in Georgia and the Turkish Republic of Northern
Cyprus. It controls these markets with extensive coverage in those
regions through quality cellular telephone services. The Group’s
communication and information technology companies are supported
and complemented by a number of technology companies that provide
satellite communication, cable TV networking, pre-paid GSM cards
and wireless data network provider services.
In Banking, the Group continues its’ activities with Banque
de Commerce et de Placement (BCP) Geneva, a Swiss merchant bank
established in 1963. With majority ownership of the Group since
1991, the bank is enjoying high market awareness and a well diversified
customer base on its four main activities which are Trade Finance,
Treasury Services, Private Banking and Correspondant Banking.
The
insurance industry has been of primary interest to the Çukurova
Group since its beginnings. The Group believes there is still
much more to accomplish in this rapidly developing business segment
in Turkey, especially in the new start-up pension funds business.
The Çukurova Group currently has one general, and one pension
fund companies in the marketplace, putting the Group among the
leading insurance industry competitors in Turkey. In addition
to regular business, these companies devote part of their time
toward developing and enhancing this industry by raising service
standards and introducing innovative products that best address
Turkish market requirements.
The
Çukurova Group aims at taking a greater share of media
and media-related industries in Turkey by providing both technical
infrastructure and content simultaneously. As one of the Çukurova
Group’s first Internet ventures, Superonline started in
1995 with the aim of becoming the country’s most preferred
Internet and data communications service provider and helping
Turkey partake in the Internet era. Superonline offers extensive
ISP and Internet-related services to both individuals and companies.
Digiturk, incorporated in March of 1999, is the digital broadcasting
market leader in Turkey. Digiturk’s high-tech infrastructure,
coupled with rich content, allows it to provide the best digital
broadcasting available with CDquality sound and DVD-quality vision.
As responsible corporate citizens, many of the Çukurova
companies are involved in philanthropic activities that include
charities as well as the sponsorship of major cultural and artistic
